To fulfill President Abraham Lincoln’s promise “To care for him who shall have borne the battle, and for his widow, and his orphan” by serving and honoring the men and women who are America’s veterans.
That’s not just the mission statement of the United States Department of Veterans Affairs, but also the local Morehead VA clinic that strives to serve thousands of veterans in the area.
“We are excited to serve the men and women veterans in this region,” said Stacy Rodgers, nurse manager. “Our goal here is to provide top-notch care and make it easily accessible for all those who qualify.”
With over 9,000 square feet of newly constructed space, the clinic has 12 exam rooms, a women’s health exam room, is handicap accessible, includes ample parking and serves more than 8,000 eligible veterans living in Morehead and surrounding counties.
It is located at Beacon Hill Drive behind the public library.
“We serve a variety of veterans from not only Rowan County, but surrounding counties,” Rodgers said.
She added that some will travel as far as 60 miles to receive the VA’s services.
The Morehead VA offers general outpatient care, preventive health services and medical screenings, patient education and referrals to specialty care and specialized programs at the Lexington VA Medical Center.
“Our team of healthcare professionals can include physicians, nurse practitioners, registered nurses, licensed practical nurses, social workers, and pharmacists working together with clinic staff to coordinate your care in the VA healthcare system,” Rodgers said.
The facility sees anywhere from 30 veterans to more than 50 per day.
The Morehead VA’s services include:
• Primary Care
• Mental Health Care
• Women’s Health Care
• EKG Services
• Pharmacy Consultation
• Social Work Services
