Orange County School of the Arts junior Sophia Strobel is one of 20 students selected to study classical voice this summer in Switzerland under the direction of mezzo-soprano Rachel Calloway as a part of the Juilliard Summer Performing Arts program. She’ll be staying at the Collège du Léman boarding school for two weeks in July while participating.

Q: Tell us about your involvement with the Juilliard program and what your hopes are for your time there this summer.
A: Juilliard is simply the best performing arts school, and it is my dream to attend college there next year. Last December, I heard about their advanced summer program, a vocal intensive where students from all over the world come to perform and receive instruction from Juilliard teachers. Oh … and the program is in Lake Geneva, Switzerland, at the Collège du Léman under the direction of world class mezzo soprano Rachel Calloway. I just had to apply. I provided vocal recordings and a personal video explaining my desire to attend, which was a requirement. Much to my surprise I learned that Juilliard had accepted me.
