Russian prostitute who accused disgraced former New York governor Eliot Spitzer of assaulting her in a hotel room is arrested by NYPD for 'blackmailing him'


The $5,000-a-night Russian prostitute who accused ex-New York governor Eliot Spitzer of choking her in a hotel room has been arrested on blackmail charges.

Svetlana Zakharova Travis, 25, told NYPD detectives that Spitzer, 57, had assaulted her in a $1,000 hotel room in February after she revealed plans to return to Moscow. She then flew to Russia.

She returned to New York on Monday and was promptly arrested by cops for allegedly trying to blackmail Spitzer out of $50,000, sources told NBC New York
