Furious commuters face chaos as Southern trains kicks off strike

Railway staff and union members faced an angry backlash from passengers this morning as scenes of chaos caused tempers to flare across the south east.

Widespread cancellations, delayed engineering work and a broken down train led to a ‘perfect storm’ on the first day of a planned three day strike by rail staff.

Hundreds of passengers crammed into stations across the south desperate to make the commute to London.

In Brighton frustrated passengers even attempted to storm barriers desperate to get place on the occasional train running in to London.
