Dana Point BBQ championships dishes up record funds for military


DANA POINT – For Jacinto Torres it was a labor of love.

For eight hours on Saturday he grilled nearly 200 pounds of teriyaki chicken and beef while thousands of hungry barbecue lovers waited in line for their $2 samples at the Dana Point State BBQ Championships.

“I like cooking,” the Costa Mesa man said. “All the people were giving me compliments. Even when I got tired, it didn’t matter. If you enjoy what you’re doing, at the end of the day you leave with a good feeling.”

Torres, who cooked for the People’s Choice category, was part of Team Woodshed. The Orange-based firewood company provides premium firewood and gourmet cooking wood to restaurants throughout Southern California, including Lucille’s BBQ, Banderas and Dickeys in Orange County.
