Preparations are underway at the Air Force Academy for graduation week activities. The class of 2017 will graduate from the Academy on Wednesday May 24th.
This year’s commencement speaker is General Joseph Dunford, Chairman of the Joint Chiefs of Staff. Dunford is the nation’s highest ranking military officer, and the primary military adviser to the President, Secretary of Defense and the National Security Council. The Academy estimates nearly 900 cadets will graduate as the Academy’s Class of 2017 at Falcon Stadium.
Tickets for the event have been available for pick up since May 17th. There are only 500 tickets available, with 5 tickets per person on a first come first serve basis. The Colorado Springs Chamber and EDC Office in downtown Colorado Springs as well as the Tri-Lakes Chamber of Commerce in Monument were given public tickets.

- Cadet Parade: Tues. May 23rd
7:30 a.m. to 9:00 a.m. – Cadet aerial demonstration
9:00 a.m. to 10:30 – Graduation Parade – Stillman Field
- Graduation Ceremony: Wed. May 24th
Gates open at 7:00 a.m.
9:30 a.m. to 12:30 p.m.- Graduation Ceremony- Falcon Stadium
There are several things to keep in mind if you plan to attend. The ceremony itself gets underway at 9:30 a.m. Falcon Stadium, gates will open at 7 a.m. There will be a cadet aerial presentation ahead of the formal ceremony while everyone gets to the stadium and settled.
Visitors are asked to enter though the North Gate. Security requirements at the gate slow down traffic, visitors are asked to arrive early and expect to spend time in a line of traffic. All visitors must show valid identification, that includes every person in the car over the age of 18 years old. Vehicle registration and proof of insurance are also required, and random vehicle searches will be taking place. All of this is standard procedure for entrance on the Academy.
